The newest and most exciting addition to my upcoming projects include my first novel! For a brief excerpt of my in-progress novel, read on:
Miriam doesn’t know who she should be. She wants to be strong like the other women in her life but she is more wallflower than a woman with gumption. Miriam is from a matriarchal family, a bevy of women with personality and strength but as a young woman, she is looking for her own voice and knows she won’t find it surrounded by a community who judges her for her parent’s sins. Miriam does the most drastic thing she can think of and moves to San Francisco in the 1970’s to escape her family’s past and to help a family member harbor a secret. She means to define life on her own terms and in doing so, will follow her new love to San Francisco. Interwoven into the fabric of my yet-to-be-named novel is a focus on the character’s challenges with regards to women’s rights, racism, sexism, homophobia and cancer but all entwined with themes of love and humor for levity. Once a wallflower, now always a wallflower. This one intends on blooming!
